An injection-molded plastic model of an American towing and recovery truck, a wrecker, in 1:24 scale from the Italian brand Italeri. It is a classic American tractor unit with an extended sleeper cab carrying a heavy towing rig at the rear. The package holds plastic parts, chrome-plated parts, clear parts for the lights, rubber tires with a realistic tread and decals. The build is one of the more demanding ones and will be appreciated by more experienced modelers.
Tow trucks of this type are used to recover and tow wrecked or broken-down trucks on American highways. The basis is a sturdy chassis with a powerful engine, and behind the cab comes a massive towing and crane rig with winches and booms. The vehicle combines the pulling power of a tractor unit with the equipment needed to rescue and move heavy vehicles.
Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic and, where needed, fill and sand the joints. Lay down a primer before painting and apply the paints with an airbrush in thin coats. The chrome and the painted surfaces of the cab stand out under a gloss coat, while on the towing body and the chassis a wash to bring out the detail and a fine patina will help. Paint the interior of the cab before you close it up.
