This is a detail accessory for an aircraft model, not the model itself. The set is cast in resin, a material that holds a sharp edge and a fine texture better than injection-molded plastic. On the Blackbird the tail is unusually exposed: the two massive engine nacelles sit midway along the span, so both nozzles are seen at once from the side and from behind, and any inaccuracy of shape or visible joint spoils the overall impression. This version matches the position with the petals drawn in.
The Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird was a strategic reconnaissance aircraft built to fly at high supersonic speed at great altitude. The design started from the fact that the airframe heats up and expands considerably in flight, which fed into the choice of materials and into the layout of the propulsion system. The engines worked together with movable inlet spikes and a bypass system, so at high speed they behaved differently from a conventional jet engine. The exhaust nozzles with their movable petals changed section according to the flight regime, and on an aircraft parked on the ground they are usually in the drawn-in form.
Wash the castings in warm water with a little detergent so that no mold release agent is left on them. Separate the casting block with a fine saw or a cutting disc and level the surface with wet sandpaper, protecting your breathing. Paint the inner surfaces before you seat the nozzles in the nacelles. Choose the shade in graded metallic tones, because the Blackbird was dark overall and the metal tail is one of the few places where contrast can be worked. Fix the joint with cyanoacrylate glue and seat both nozzles to the same depth, or the tail will be lopsided.
