About product

Metal Filters Turquoise Interference from Green Stuff World

This product belongs to the Metal Filters line of the Green Stuff World marque and it is a filter, not an opaque paint. A filter is applied over an already finished surface and shifts its overall tone without repainting it. The Interference designation also says that the resulting cast changes with the angle at which the light falls, so the turquoise shift on a surface will stand out at one moment and almost vanish at another.

A filter, a wash and a paneliner are not the same thing

The difference lies in what the product is aimed at. A filter works with a whole surface and changes its color balance. A wash concentrates on detail, runs into the recesses and brings out the relief. A paneliner follows engraved lines. If, then, you want to tune a metal surface in color rather than dirty it, a filter is exactly what you reach for.

Use

  • Tuning the color of silver and steel surfaces
  • A cast on the metal parts of armor, blades and machine components
  • Suggesting the heat discoloration of metal and an iridescent cast
  • Unifying several metal shades into one balance
  • Striking surfaces on fantasy and science fiction models

Who the filter is for

The product will be appreciated by modelers who already have metallic surfaces in hand and want to give them character, and by figure painters working with colored metal. Work in sections and apply it lightly and repeatedly rather than heavily once: the color shift can be built up, but you will not get it back off. Stir the contents before use and test the effect on a painted offcut.

Keep in a well-closed container out of the reach of children and ventilate while working.

FAQ

A filter shifts the color balance of a whole surface, while a wash runs into the recesses and brings out detail. For tuning the color of metal, then, a filter suits rather than a wash.

That the resulting cast changes with the angle at which the light falls. The turquoise shift stands out markedly at one moment and is barely noticeable at another, and that makes the surface read as alive.

It is not. This is a tinting product applied over a finished surface to change its tone. On its own it will not repaint the base.

Apply it lightly and repeat if need be. The color shift can be built up gradually, but it cannot be taken off once dry, which is why a test on a painted offcut is a good idea.
