Dipping ink 17 ml Seraphim Flesh Dip (Green Stuff World)

A semi-transparent acrylic ink from the Dipping ink range. It is applied over a light base and in one step creates both color and shadow: the pigment runs down into the recesses and folds, while only a thin film stays on the raised areas. That turns what is normally slow shading into a single stroke of the brush. The package has a volume of 17 milliliters. The range is built for quick painting, so it makes most sense where several figures have to be managed at once.

A flesh shade

A light flesh tone intended for skin. Over a white base it creates a natural skin shade straight away, and in the folds it suggests the shadow under the chin, in the eye sockets and between the fingers by itself. Skin is precisely where the single-coat technique saves the most work.

Use

• Applied over a white or light base, as only then does the shade come through
• Load the brush fully and draw off the excess so that no pools form
• Let the ink run into the recesses by itself; do not push it there with the brush
• On a face, let the ink run by itself and draw the excess off the raised areas with a dry brush
• Once dry, the surfaces can be lightened with opaque paint and the details picked out
• Thinned with water the ink becomes a finer shading glaze

Safety note

Work in a well-ventilated room, especially if you spray the ink with an airbrush. Avoid contact with the eyes and the skin, keep it out of the reach of children and close the bottle carefully after use. Dried ink is hard to remove from textiles, so protect your clothing and your work surface.
