About product

Ocean Blue, acrylic ink

A blue ink from the acrylic The Inks range. It differs from a classic bottled paint in its thin binder and high pigment content: it is applied in thin translucent coats that add up, so you build the tone exactly where you want it. It is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner.

Use

  • Glaze layering of blue over an already painted surface without losing the detail underneath.
  • Color transitions on wings, on the cloak of a figure or on a water surface in a diorama.
  • Toning gray and white areas toward a colder tone.
  • Mixing your own shades with other acrylics from a single range.

The base and a metallic undercoat: the candy effect

A translucent ink is the ideal tool for letting the base do the work. This shows most strongly over a metallic undercoat: blue applied in thin coats over a silver or chrome base gives the so-called candy effect, a deep metallic sheen shining through the color that no opaque paint can imitate. The condition is a smooth, glossy base: the metallic is sprayed only onto a finished smooth surface, and the area is primed and smoothed beforehand, because every scratch under the metal shows through twice as much. Over a white base, by contrast, you get a clean, bright blue, and over gray a more muted tone. The base here is therefore not preparation but a full component of the final color.

Who the ink is for

For modelers and figure painters who work with layering and translucent effects, and for anyone who wants to build a color step by step instead of in one coat.

Keep out of the reach of children, shake before use and ventilate while spraying.

FAQ

A thin translucent coat of color applied over a metallic base. The metal shines through the color and creates a depth that an opaque paint cannot match.

Water or acrylic thinner. Lacquer and cellulose thinners do not belong in an acrylic ink.

The ink is translucent, so the base always carries into the result. Use a light base for a bright tone and a dark one for depth.
