A masking set from the Czech brand Omask made for a model of the AJ 37 Viggen in 1:48 scale from Special Hobby. The contents are flexible foam plugs shaped to fit the wheel bays of this specific kit. The plug simply slots into the bay, holds by itself, and comes out after spraying — it needs no glue or any preparation.
This is not a kit. The Viggen model is sold separately; here you are buying an aid for painting it.
Wheel bays are deep, intricate, and their interior is a different color from the aircraft's exterior. Overspray that gets in there while spraying the camouflage is practically impossible to fix — the detail inside will not allow touching up with a brush. The plug is insurance against a mistake you cannot undo.
The AJ 37 Viggen is a Swedish combat aircraft with an unmistakable silhouette: a canard layout, with a foreplane ahead of the main delta wing, gave it exceptional lift reserve and the ability to land on a very short strip. Swedish doctrine planned to disperse aircraft onto closed sections of highway — the Viggen had to be able to touch down and brake almost anywhere. That makes its rugged landing gear all the more worth keeping clean.
For anyone building the Viggen from Special Hobby in 1:48 scale who does not want to risk a mist of paint in the bays. It also suits a modeler masking for the first time — using it takes only a few seconds.
