This resin detail set from Aires in 1:32 scale replaces the cockpit of a model of the A-1H Skyraider, also designated AD-6 at the time. It is not an airplane model but a resin accessory for a kit, which markedly raises the fidelity of the pilot's compartment. The set is intended for more experienced modelers and is supplied as resin castings to be assembled and painted.

The real subject

The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a single-engine piston attack aircraft with a long endurance over the target. The A-1H (AD-6) version was one of the later single-seat forms and served mainly in close air support. A finely rendered cockpit with its instrument panel and seat adds realism to a model.

Building and painting tips

First wash the mold release residue off the parts, separate the casting blocks carefully and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Wear respiratory protection while sanding. The interior comes out well with matte shades, a fine dry brush on the edges and a wash into the recesses. Check the fit against the fuselage of your particular kit before installing it.
