A set of shapes for the glazing of the Bf 110C heavy fighter in 1:32 scale. It is cut for the kit by Dragon and holds parts for both sides of the long greenhouse canopy over the crew.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 110 came about as a twin-engine destroyer meant to escort bombers deep over enemy territory. The C version with DB 601 engines and clipped wing tips became the most widespread form of the early war. In Poland and over France it succeeded, but in the summer of 1940 over England it turned out that a large machine cannot turn away from a single-engine fighter; the losses were such that the Zerstörer needed an escort itself. It found its real use later as a night hunter and a ground-attack aircraft. The pair of cannon and the four machine guns in the nose stayed a respected weapon to the end of the war, only it had to be used against a target unable to defend itself by turning.
The cockpit of the Bf 110 is a long glazed tunnel with a large number of narrow frames, and that is where most flaws arise. An applied shape has to be gone over around its whole perimeter with the blunt tip of a toothpick or a wooden stick, so that the film seats right down into the groove around the frame. If that is left out, paint bleeds under the edge that is not in contact and a smeared transition arises, the kind that shows at first glance in a large scale. Light pressure is enough and it is always directed from the middle of the shape toward its edge.
This is an accessory to a kit; the model of the aircraft itself is sold separately.
