About product

Consolidated B-24 Liberator seatbelts STEEL 1:32: Eduard photo-etched belts

A set of seat belts for the cockpit of a model of the American Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber in the B-24D and B-24J versions in 1:32 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The STEEL designation means that the belts are etched from steel rather than brass. The steel sheet is stronger, so a smaller material thickness can be reached, yet it is pliable enough for a belt to be bent naturally and left hanging loosely over the seat. It is a stand-alone accessory to a base model.

Why belts are dealt with separately

Seat belts are conspicuous in a cockpit and the eye looks for them first. In the basic box they are either only a decal on the seat or missing altogether. Photo-etched belts have real volume compared with a decal and can be arranged the way they would lie in reality, thrown over the edge of the seat or slumped loose. In a large scale, where the seat is clearly visible through the glazing, the difference between a decal and a real belt is fundamental. The color finish also does away with the need to paint the belts and buckles laboriously.

Usage tips

Shape the steel belts with your fingers or two pairs of tweezers gradually, not in a single bend, so that the fold looks like fabric and not like a kink in sheet metal. They are glued with cyanoacrylate a minute drop at a time, ideally applied with a piece of wire. Do not overspray the color printing with an opaque paint; if you want to knock the sheen back, use a thin coat of flat clear. A light wash and fine dusting with pigment around the buckles help the effect. Fit the belts before you close the fuselage.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building a large Liberator with a well-worked cockpit
  • anyone for whom belts suggested by a decal are not enough
  • modelers who want color belts without painting the buckles
  • competition builders judged on interior detail

This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

That the belts are etched from steel instead of brass. Steel is stronger, allows a smaller thickness and holds a shaped bend better.

No, they come in color. Do not overspray them with an opaque paint, as the printing is their main value.

Shape them gradually in small steps with two pairs of tweezers. One sharp bend looks like kinked sheet metal rather than webbing.

Before the fuselage is glued together, otherwise you cannot reach the seats.
