About product

TFace masking set 1:32 - Curtiss Hawk 81-A2, Eduard

Pre-cut masking templates for the model of the Curtiss Hawk 81-A2 fighter in 1:32 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The TFace designation means that the set deals with the glazing from both sides: masks are prepared for the outer and for the inner face, so that the cockpit frames look properly painted even when seen from within. That is how this set differs from the basic masking set of the same name, which covers only the outer side. It is not a model kit but an accessory for painting.

How the masks work

The templates are cut from kabuki paper, that is a thin masking paper with a slightly yielding adhesive. The individual pieces are peeled off the sheet, laid on the glass and pressed down with a stick or a toothpick. The paper follows curves well, comes off after spraying without any adhesive residue and leaves no marks on the clear parts. Against cutting masking tape by hand it saves hours of work and the frames come out even, which shows clearly in 1:32 scale on large areas of glass.

Usage tips

Wash the glass before masking and let it dry, because masks hold worst on grease from your fingers. Stick the masks for the inner side on before the glazing is fitted into the fuselage, otherwise you will not reach into the cockpit. Spray the paint in thin coats, because a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off while the paint has only just dried, and do it by drawing it across the surface, not straight up. Correct any seepage with a fine brush while the detail is still easy to reach.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the Hawk 81-A2 model in 1:32 scale
  • modelers who want the cockpit frames painted on the inside as well
  • anyone who dislikes cutting masks by hand
  • modelers building the cockpit with the canopy slid back

The set holds masking templates only; it is not a model kit. Paints are not included in the package.
