This is an add-on set in resin for a model of the North American F-100 Super Sabre in 1:32 scale, not a model of the aircraft as such. Add-on sets of this kind are used to exchange parts where injection-molded plastic runs into its technological limits, that is where a thin wall, a deep undercut or a very fine surface texture is needed. In the large 1:32 scale such a step pays off most, because the model is examined close up. The actual extent of the set differs from item to item in this line, so go by the information on the box.
The North American F-100 Super Sabre was an American fighter that became the first production machine of the US Air Force able to exceed the speed of sound in straight and level flight. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney J57 jet engine with an afterburner. The aircraft had a markedly swept wing, an oval air intake in the nose and low-set horizontal tail surfaces. Single-seat versions and a two-seat training variant were produced, and during its service the machine gradually moved from the fighter role to that of a tactical bomber.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. Level the mating surfaces with abrasive paper and sand wet, with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint would hold poorly on the smooth casting. Fill and sand the transitions between the resin and the plastic, since in a large scale they would otherwise be visible. After sanding, lightly rescribe the panel lines with a scriber.
The add-on set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
