This set is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory: resin underwing fuel tanks of 200 gallon capacity for the F-100D Super Sabre kit in 1:32 scale. Compared with a plastic part, a cast tank has the advantage of having no lengthwise parting line, which would otherwise have to be laboriously filled and sanded on a smooth body.
The F-100 Super Sabre was an American fighter aircraft with a swept wing and a single jet engine, historically significant as the first production machine of the US Air Force capable of supersonic speed in level flight. The F-100D version was a fighter bomber and became the most numerous variant of the type. For the sake of range the machines were routinely flown with drop tanks, which existed in several sizes; the smaller, two-hundred-gallon ones were among the common configurations. For a modeler that means the correctly chosen size of tank is one of the details by which a particular period configuration can be told.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and sand the area flat; sand wet and with respiratory protection, and do not inhale resin dust. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with super glue, as cement for plastic models has no effect on resin. Apply a primer before painting, which on smooth bodies reliably shows up every scratch. Tanks tend to be polished or painted differently from the fuselage, so it pays to paint them separately and to fit them onto the pylons only at the end.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
