This is a set of three-dimensional (3D) decals for the interior of the single-seat Hornet in 1:32 scale. The elements are printed and colored in production, they carry a raised relief of buttons, switches and display bezels, and they are applied on decal paper directly onto the cockpit parts from the kit. The result reads better than brush painting and has more depth than a flat photo-etched part. In the name the set is listed as the smaller version, so expect it to cover a narrower selection of surfaces than the full version. The target kit is Academy.
The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-based multirole aircraft with the distinctive leading-edge extensions at the wing roots. The A++ designation belongs to machines of the early single-seat series that went through a further equipment upgrade and served with the US Marine Corps. The panel layout in the cockpit of these machines differs from the later series, and that is exactly the state the set captures.
The 3D decals are released from the backing paper in water like a decal: the element is soaked for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slid off the paper into place, where it holds on gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener or setter at all, they would attack the printed resin. Follow the instructions supplied with the set. In general the surface should be clean, degreased and perfectly dry, the elements are placed with tweezers and it pays to check the fit dry beforehand. The segments are thin, so do not bend them needlessly over sharp edges. After fitting it is usually worth unifying the whole interior with a light flattening coat so that the surface does not look unevenly glossy.
This is not an aircraft model but an add-on set for the interior. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
