About product

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5, 1:32, Hobby 2000

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5 fighter in the large 1:32 scale. Hobby 2000 is a Polish publisher that does not make its own tooling but reboxes proven plastic from other manufacturers and adds accessories of its own. In this case the plastic comes from Hasegawa tooling, with Cartograf decals (crisp printing, faithful shades) and masks for convenient painting of the cockpit and the clear parts. The package offers three marking options from the Western and the Eastern Front.

The real subject

The Fw 190A-5 is an early version of the Focke-Wulf with the air-cooled BMW 801 radial engine. That is the fundamental difference from the late D-9 version, which received an inverted V12 liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo engine and with it the characteristic long pointed nose - the two versions look entirely different even though they carry the same name. The A-5, by contrast, has a short, stocky nose with a large cooling fan behind the propeller. Against the older A-4, the A-5 received a lengthened engine mount that moved the power unit forward and improved both balance and cooling. The aircraft served in 1943 on the Western and Eastern Front alike and was the basis for a whole series of further modifications - from fighter-bombers to torpedo carriers.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for polystyrene. In the large 1:32 scale the cockpit interior comes into its own - it pays to paint it and shade it with a wash before the fuselage is closed up. Apply the enclosed masks to the clear parts, then spray the canopy and its frames together with the fuselage so that the shades match. Apply a primer before painting, spray the camouflage with an airbrush and do not forget the soft transition between shades on the sides of the fuselage. Lay the Cartograf decals over a gloss coat, fix them with a matte varnish once dry and pick the finished model out with light weathering in the panel lines.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers who want a large, representative model for the display cabinet
  • Anyone interested in the early Fw 190 versions with the BMW 801 radial engine
  • Luftwaffe collectors who want to add the A-5 alongside the late D-9
  • Those who will appreciate good Cartograf decals and masks right in the box
  • Modelers with basic experience of injection-molded plastic

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The A-5 is the early version with the air-cooled BMW 801 radial engine and a short, stocky nose. The D-9 is the late version with an inverted V12 liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo engine and a markedly lengthened pointed nose. Visually they are two entirely different aircraft.

No. Hobby 2000 is a publisher that reboxes plastic from other manufacturers and adds its own decals and masks. On this Fw 190A-5 the plastic comes from Hasegawa tooling.

Besides the plastic parts you get Cartograf decals with crisp printing and faithful shades and a set of masks for painting the cockpit and the clear parts. The package offers three marking options.
