AML Fw 190 A-8/R11 Neptun 1:32 - a conversion into a night fighter with the FuG 217 J-2 radar.
Responsibility details are not available.
This AML conversion set serves to turn a Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8 into the night R11 version with the FuG 217 J-2 Neptun radar. You are not buying a whole model - these are conversion parts for kits in 1:32 scale. The result is one of the most interesting forms of the famous type, one that turns up on exhibition tables only rarely, and the intended starting kits are Hasegawa, Tamiya or Revell.
The R11 modification prepared the Fw 190 A-8 for flying in bad weather and at night: the machines were given instrument equipment for flight without outside visibility and an airborne radar whose aerials projected from both the wings and the fuselage. Night Focke-Wulfs went into action against British bombers in the final period of the war, when even single-seat fighters relying on their own sensors operated over the Reich.
Split the work into stages: first the airframe modifications, then the camouflage, and the fragile aerial array last. Mark each aerial according to the diagram before gluing so that none get mixed up. Fill and sand the transitions from the conversion parts into the plastic so that no visible seam is left on the fuselage. Depending on the references available, consider the exhaust shrouds as well, which kept night pilots from being dazzled. A dark night scheme comes alive with light lifting of the upper surfaces by drybrushing.
