A resin set in 1:32 scale from the Reskit brand that replaces the exhaust ends of the engines on a model of the Grumman F-14D Tomcat carrier fighter. According to the name the nozzles are worked up in the open position, that is in the form they have once the engines are shut down or when running with the afterburner. The maker also runs the closed-position variant and a set with both positions separately, so choose by the scene you want to build. The set is not a model of the aircraft; check the number of parts on the packaging.
The F-14D was the last production version of the carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing. It differed from the early machines above all in its General Electric F110-GE-400 powerplants, which had more thrust than the original engines and differently arranged exhaust nozzles. It is exactly the different shape of the nozzles that is one of the most striking external recognition features of the late versions, and in 1:32 scale it is unmissable on a model.
After washing the parts free of release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and true the seating surfaces carefully, so that the nozzles meet the fuselage without a step. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside beforehand, ideally in a dark metal shade lightening gradually toward the rim. The outer petals have pronounced shadows in the open position, so it pays to blend a dark color gently into the gaps. Build the heat discoloration up in thin layers and add the soot right at the end.
