1:32 J2M2 Raiden: Dead Design die-cut masks for the outer canopy frames of the Japanese interceptor.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the manufacturer Dead Design covers the cockpit glazing of the Raiden in the Model 11 version. The canopy is divided into a row of narrow panes and begins with a curved windscreen, where taping by hand almost always ends in a wavy edge. Shapes that fit the frames cut this work down to minutes and the boundary between glass and paint stays straight.
The Mitsubishi J2M2 was a land-based interceptor of the Imperial Japanese Navy, listed by the Allies under the code name Jack. It was created with a single task: to climb to bomber formations as fast as possible. Hence the massive radial engine mounted behind an extension shaft with a cooling fan, the slim, faired cowling and the small wing area with a high wing loading. The Model 11 was the first production rendition of the type and its cockpit differs from later machines in shape as well as in how it sits in the fuselage spine.
Degrease the clear part first and let it dry completely. Transfer the shapes one at a time and press them down with a wooden stick along the whole length of the frame, so that no pocket of air stays under the edge. Spray the paint in several thin coats, because a heavy layer will run under the edge. It pays to start with the interior shade and only then lay down the outer camouflage. Lift the mask while the finish is freshly set.
