Kabuki masks for the Junkers Ju 87D dive bomber in 1:32 scale. They cover the glazing from both sides and add four marking masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the form of the D series the Junkers Ju 87 was given a thorough reworking of its forward part. The engine got a smoother cowling, and with it the outline of the glazing changed as well, becoming more flowing and less angular than on the older versions. The crew was two men sitting back to back under one long canopy, so the glazing continues far behind the pilot as far as the rear gun position. That has a moving section of its own, which the gunner slid open while firing.
Glazing of this type is visible on a model from both sides twice over: from the outside along the whole length of the spine, and from the inside every time the build is left with the rear position open. The set therefore carries parts for both sides of the glazing at once. Of the four masks for the national insignia it is worth noting that on this machine the crosses appear in a greater number of variants than on fighters, because the width of the border changed several times during the war.
On long straight sections it pays to lay the mask down in one go and only then press it down from the center toward the edges. Choose thin coats of paint; on a large area every overrun is conspicuous. Finish the work with a matte coat only once all the pieces have been taken off; while they are in place, a step would remain visible around them.
