NAPLES RED

Naples Red - an Abteilung 502 acrylic paint

Naples Red is a modeling acrylic paint from the Abteilung 502 brand. It belongs to the acrylic line, not to the oil line the brand makes alongside it: it is therefore thinned with water, dries quickly and further coats can be applied one shortly after another. The name comes from the classic artist's palette, where Naples shades denote muted, warm and slightly earthy tones. Against a pure primary red it looks calm and natural.

Use

• uniforms, gear and fabric elements of figures, where a saturated red would look toylike,
• earth and rusty tones, into which it is blended as the warm component,
• weathered finishes of vehicles, roof tiles and bricks on dioramas,
• toning flesh, to which it adds warmth in the cheeks and on the knuckles.

Thinning and mixing

It is thinned with water or an acrylic thinner; mineral spirits and oil thinners cannot be used. Shake thoroughly before work. Muted red shades go well with the ocher and brown paints of the same line, so a few shades are enough for weathering and earth effects. On a dark base count on a higher number of thin coats.

Who the paint is for

For painters of figures and busts, builders of dioramas and modelers who mix their own earth tones. It suits wherever a red is needed that does not shout.

Keep out of the reach of children. Ventilate while working, do not eat or drink, and do not pour paint residues down the drain.
