The A is the basic land-based version of the Lightning II, the one intended for conventional takeoff from a runway, and it differs from the other two versions among other things in its internal gun. The seat comes from the Martin-Baker Mk.16 family and was designed to suit pilots across a wide range of body proportions. In 1:32 scale it really is visible under the large transparent canopy, including the shaping of the headrest and the division of the side panels.
Test the fit dry before you reach for paint, because cockpit tubs differ in size between individual kits. In terms of color the seat holds together when you let a dark base show through in the recesses and apply a lighter shade only to the raised edges. Modern cockpits tend to be clean, so hold back on heavy weathering and concentrate instead on the contrast of the materials. Small plates and warning labels give the seat scale and conviction better than any artificial aging.
