Double-sided Eduard TFace masks for the Lockheed Martin F-35B in 1:32 scale cover the glazing frames from outside and from inside the cockpit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Double-sided masking is the detail that sets a carefully built model apart from an average one. Eduard uses the TFace designation for sets whose masks are cut for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The cockpit frame is in reality painted on both sides, and when it is masked from outside only, bare clear plastic shows through from within. In the large 1:32 scale that is visible on a finished model at first glance.
The Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II is the version of the fifth-generation fighter adapted for short takeoff and vertical landing. A lift fan placed right behind the cockpit and a swiveling engine nozzle let it operate from ships without a catapult and from improvised strips. The cockpit is covered by large one-piece glazing whose frame runs a fairly complex course on a model, so masking by hand with tape is slow and rarely turns out entirely clean.
Clean and degrease the surface of the glazing first. Lift the masks with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick, with particular care round the edge, where the paint most often gets under. Fit the inner masks before you seat the glazing on the model. Spray in thin coats and lift the mask off shortly after the paint is dry. If you spray the inside of the cockpit in the interior shade, it is the inner masks that make sure the cockpit frame does not become one uniform area.
