Masks for the Italian fighter with the star marking in a light field: the glazing from both sides and two markings.

The Macchi C.202 Folgore came about by combining the elegant airframe of the previous type with a license-built inverted V12 Daimler-Benz engine. The result rid the Regia Aeronautica of its greatest weakness, that is a lack of power at altitude, and from the middle of 1941 it became its best production fighter. The armament stayed weaker than was then usual, but agility and rate of climb evened out the comparison with contemporary opponents over the Mediterranean.
Over North Africa the dark green the Italian machines wore over home territory stopped making sense. An aircraft standing on an airfield near Tobruk merges best with light sand, and so a yellow-brown base prevailed, on which irregular mottles or rings were added. Those were sprayed by hand, often right at the unit, so no two examples looked the same and arguments about their exact appearance continue to this day. The desert scheme, meanwhile, dealt mainly with the threat from the air while standing on the ground. In the air over the sea the same aircraft stood out against the water and the light gray underside finish was the only thing that could be done about it.
In the package there are two glazing masks, for the outer and the inner view, and a pair of masks for the national insignia. The cockpit of this type has many narrow bars and in this scale a hand-drawn line along them is recognizable at first glance, whereas die-cut film keeps the same width along the whole length of the frame.
