An injection-molded plastic model of the tropical version of the early German Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4/Trop fighter in 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. The large scale brings out the detail of the engine and the cockpit; the box contains photo-etched parts and decals. The suffix Trop refers to the tropical modification of the aircraft for service in hot and dusty conditions.
The Bf 109E (Emil) was the first mass-produced series of this fighter and the main German fighter during the Battle of Britain. The tropical E-4/Trop version received a dust filter on the engine intake and further equipment for desert service; it was used mainly in the Mediterranean and in North Africa. The E-4 version had MG FF/M cannons in the wings and was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection. The sand camouflage of the tropical machines is characteristic of this version.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. Do not forget the dust filter on the intake, which sets this version apart. Finish and paint the engine and the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and mask the glazing. The desert camouflage looks best if you spray the transitions in thin coats with an airbrush and add a fine dust weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
