A resin replacement for the barrels for models of the Lightning in the large 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a detail accessory for a model under construction. The manufacturer offers this item in two variants designated A and B; before buying we recommend comparing the execution with the references for the particular subject.
The Lightning had its armament concentrated in the nose of the central nacelle, so the protruding barrels are a striking visual element on the model, right on the line of sight from the front. Plastic barrels tend to be short, slightly twisted and to have a mold seam along their whole length that cannot be cleaned up without thinning them. A resin casting offers a straight cylinder without a seam and a cleaner transition to the muzzle. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. Thin barrels are fragile, so separate them from the casting block with a saw with very fine teeth, never by breaking them, and work over a tray so that the small part does not get lost. Shorten the end and level it at a right angle, otherwise the barrel will sit visibly crooked in the nose. It is glued with super glue; apply the drop with a toothpick or a piece of wire so that the glue does not run over the surroundings. In color a dark steel or graphite shade proves itself, with the edge of the muzzle lightly polished. Fit the barrels as one of the last operations, so that they are not broken off while the model is handled.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
