Masking set for a large model of the late Mustang. The film for the teardrop glazing is cut for the outer and the inner face, and two star stencils and a printed marking sheet go with it.
Responsibility details are not available.
The late Mustang swapped the framed greenhouse for a molded teardrop without a single bar. For the pilot that opened up the view to the rear over the tail surfaces, but it cost the model builder his last excuse: under clean acrylic the seat, the shoulder straps, the side control panels and the glass of the gunsight above the instrument panel all stay visible. Framing no longer hides any of it.
The set therefore carries a mask for both faces of the glazing. The inner face of the windscreen and the guide rails is painted in the interior shade inside the cockpit, while the covering camouflage belongs on the same parts from outside. Anyone masking only from outside gets a mist of paint at the edge which shows through the clear acrylic and blurs the transition between the two colors.
Against a decal a sprayed star has one advantage: it holds its shape even where the fuselage curves and a paper film would break. Once the film is lifted, a matte surface is left with no glossy carrier edge.
Apply the inner mask before the canopy is seated on the fuselage, otherwise you will no longer reach it. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy pass runs under the edge of the film and the edge of the frame is then not crisp.
