This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard contains seat belts for fitting out the cockpit of a Panavia Tornado IDS model in 1:32 scale. The STEEL designation means that the belts are etched from steel rather than from the usual brass. Steel is springier and holds its shape better, so a belt can be given a convincing sag over the edge of the seat and will stay in the position you set. Belts are one of the simplest ways to lift the level of a model: in an open cockpit they are the first thing seen.
The Tornado IDS has a two-seat cockpit with the seats in tandem and with sliding hoods, so the interior stays exposed on the finished model. Plastic seats out of the box tend to come without belts or with only a hinted relief that disappears once painted. Photo-etched belts solve that shortcoming directly and without any work on the structure of the model.
Cut the parts out with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and true the remains of the tabs with a file. Bend the buckles and fittings along the scored grooves; with steel photo-etch press more slowly and more smoothly than with brass. The strap itself can be shaped with your fingers or by wrapping it around a round object. It is bonded with super glue applied with a pin, as any excess would flood the detail. If the parts come printed, leave them without further painting; give bare steel an adhesion primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth metal.
The set is an add-on to a kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
