A resin detail set in 1:32 scale from the Czech maker Quickboost (the Aires brand). This is not an aircraft kit but an accurate replacement for the fishtail exhaust stubs of a plastic model of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter. The exhausts are finely cast with open outlets, so they replace the simplified, solid plastic parts from the box and noticeably lift the look of the engine area.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX was one of the most successful versions of the legendary British fighter of the Second World War, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Exhaust stubs splayed into a fishtail shape are typical of this family of machines, and on a model in the large 1:32 scale they are among the most conspicuous details.
Wash the mold release residue off the resin exhausts, carefully cut off the casting blocks and dry-fit them; bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways when sanding resin. Paint the exhausts separately by layering rusty and metallic tones, darken the outlets and finish the whole with pigments for a convincing burnt look.
