Resin wheels with three-spoke hubs and paint masks for the Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:32 scale from the Czech maker Aires. This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory that replaces the wheels out of the plastic box.

An add-on set in cast resin intended for building the Spitfire Mk.IX in the large 1:32 scale. It holds replacement main landing gear wheels with the three-spoke type of hub and masks which make it easier to separate the color of the tire from the color of the hub cleanly. The set does not hold the aircraft or any other parts of the model; it is assumed that you already have the base kit.
The wheels are among the parts most in view on a finished model and at the same time the hardest to mold in injection plastic. A resin casting holds the sharp pattern of the tread and has no parting line across the tread, so laborious sanding falls away. During production the Spitfire Mk.IX was given several types of hub; the three-spoke one is one of them and it is advisable to verify it against a photograph of the particular machine you are building.
First wash the parts in warm water with dish soap, so that the residue of the mold release agent is removed, or the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw or a cutting disc; do not break them off. They are glued with superglue, ideally with an accelerator. Sand resin wet and with respiratory protection. Apply a primer before painting; it will also reveal any bubbles. Spray the shade of the hub first, and once it is dry stick the mask on and spray the tire in matte dark gray; pure black looks unnatural on a model.
This is an accessory to a build, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
