AML Spitfire Mk.IXe Czech AF 1:32 - a conversion for a postwar Czechoslovak Spitfire with German drop tanks.
Responsibility details are not available.
This AML set recalls a remarkable postwar chapter: Spitfire Mk.IXe fighters in the service of the Czechoslovak Air Force, flying with additional fuel tanks of German origin. It is a conversion accessory for kits in 1:32 scale; do not look for the aircraft itself in the package. The subject brings British design, captured material and domestic history together in a single model.
In August 1945 the Czechoslovak fighter squadrons of the RAF returned home together with their Spitfire LF Mk.IXe fighters, and the type became the backbone of the reconstituted Czechoslovak Air Force. In the shortages of the postwar years captured material was commonly pressed into use, so machines at home also flew with drop tanks that came from the stocks of the defeated Luftwaffe - and that is exactly the peculiarity this set captures. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject with a direct link to our own history.
Seat the tank and its mounting according to period pictures of Czechoslovak machines; do a trial assembly of the whole underwing area before painting. Lightly sand the joints once they have cured, so that the installation does not look as though it were glued on afterward. Literature on the postwar Czechoslovak Air Force will help with the camouflage and the markings.
