The Quinta Studio set is 3D printed directly onto decal paper and is supplied already painted. These are not resin parts to be glued but a decal with a real thickness and three-dimensional relief, applied the wet way. This item is a conversion: it is meant to turn the interior of the Trumpeter kit in the Su-30MKK version into the interior of the Su-30SM version. In extent it is among the most comprehensive sets Quinta makes for two-seat machines. Note that a reduced version of the same set marked as Small version is made as well; the exact designation tells them apart, so check which variant you want when ordering.
The Su-30SM is a two-seat multirole combat version of the Su-27 family, with tandem seating, canards and thrust vectoring. Against the export Su-30MKK version it differs in its avionics and in the equipment of both cockpits, which is exactly why the set exists as a conversion rather than as a plain interior. The cockpits have large-area displays, which is an ideal subject for a three-dimensional color decal: the front panels, the side consoles and the seats are all well visible in this scale.
Spray the cockpit area with a dark base color first. Cut the elements out with a sharp scalpel, soak them in warm water and slide them into place; the position can be adjusted with a brush and water and the excess blotted away with a cotton swab. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution: the 3D printed layer is thicker than an ordinary decal and their chemistry would damage it; on no account run a brush over the surface, as the relief would smear or tear. On curved areas work in two stages with drying in between. Coat the finished interior with a matte varnish and bring the display areas to life with a drop of gloss varnish.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
