A masking set from MH models for the Special Hobby kit of the Junkers Ju 87A dive bomber in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor an interior accessory but an aid to painting: the masks cover the transparent areas of the canopy so that only the frames can be sprayed. It is the canopy frames that decide whether a finished model reads as accurate or as blurred, and brushwork by hand is very slow on the Stuka's broken-up canopy and rarely comes out with a crisp edge.
The Ju 87A, called Anton among its crews, was the first production version of the famous dive bomber. It can be told from the later machines at a glance: it had a more angular and less refined cowling over its inverted V12 engine, heavy fairings over the landing gear legs and a strut under the tail surfaces. It first saw combat in Spain, where the tactics of the dive attack with wailing sirens were tried out, tactics that the B and D versions later made famous. The A stayed in production only briefly and is therefore much rarer as a model subject than the later Stukas.
Wash the canopy before masking and let it dry completely; grease from your fingers is the commonest cause of paint bleeding. Seat the individual pieces of the mask one at a time and press the edges down above all. Spray the interior color first, then the outer shade, so that the transition on the frame looks right from both sides.
