A 3D-printed kit of the American airfield truck for handling aircraft munitions in the early MJ-1A form. The scale is 1:72 and the maker is Reskit. It is not an aircraft model but a ground vehicle which is built on its own and in an airfield scene gives both the necessary action and the sense of scale. In 1:72 scale the parts really are tiny, so the build is rather for a more experienced hand.
The MJ-1 range has served the US Air Force since the 1950s for carrying bombs and guided missiles to an aircraft and for raising them onto the pylons. The low self-propelled truck has a hydraulic platform at the front and the driver sits to one side so as to see the load. The nickname Jammer has taken hold for this whole category of equipment. The early MJ-1A form stands at the start of the development line, whose later versions the manufacturer makes as separate items.
Wash and degrease the 3D-printed parts before building. Cut the print supports off with a sharp knife right at the mating surface and level the remnants with a fine file, because in this scale the detail itself is easily sanded away. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply the primer in a really thin coat, otherwise the fine texture will be clogged. Rubbed-through edges and a dark wash on the frame and the platform will do most of the work, and dust on the wheels will then tie the model to its base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a 3D-printed kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
