1:144 EC-130Q is a plastic kit of the US Navy communications aircraft derived from the Hercules, in 1:144 scale from Sova Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit in 1:144 scale captures one of the least usual derivatives of the Hercules, the US Navy EC-130Q communications aircraft. Outwardly it looks almost like a transport machine, but its task was quite different and its recognition features are the antennas and bulges on the fuselage. Sova Model focuses on exactly these special versions, which are missing from the ordinary range.
The EC-130Q served the task designated TACAMO, that is passing orders to ballistic missile submarines while submerged. It is based on the transport Hercules with four Allison T56 turboprop engines, but it carries extensive communications equipment and an extremely long trailing wire antenna, which the crew paid out in flight and kept in position by circling slowly. The machines served with the naval squadrons VQ-3 and VQ-4, and in the 1990s the four-engine jet E-6 replaced them in the same role.
A small scale forgives little, so give time to the fuselage seams and the leading edges of the wing. First build and clean up the whole airframe, then spray a primer, and only at the end add the thin antennas, which are easily broken off during handling. Mask the glazing rather than painting over it. Light naval finishes need a really smooth base, or sanding scratches will stand out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The package holds the kit itself; nothing else belongs with it.
