This Star Decals set in 1:35 scale brings the markings of the s.Pz.Abt. 501 unit from the period of 1943 to 1944 on the Eastern Front. According to the name it is intended for the Tiger I and the command Befehls-Tiger I in mid production. The model is not included in the package.
The mid production Tiger I differs from the early machines in its cast commander's cupola with vision slits and in the removal of the intake filter system that the vehicles of the African era carried. The command Befehls-Tigers had radio equipment for directing the unit on top of that, which the fit of aerials and a smaller stowage of ammunition matched. It is precisely the difference between the command vehicle and an ordinary machine that decides which number belongs on the turret, so think the choice of scheme over before you build the turret interior.
Vehicles of this period often carried anti-magnetic paste, and its grooved surface does decals no favors - a design holds on it only after a softener has been used and after patient pressing with a soft brush. A locally polished patch under the number will help as well. The winter and spring Eastern Front means whitewash overspray and a muddy lower hull, so weather the markings in a graded manner: legible on the turret, held back on the hull.
