The third part of the numbered series of Star Decals decals in 1:35 scale holds generic insignia and unit markings of German assault guns. The set will be appreciated above all by anyone building from a photograph on which the unit insignia is legible but is missing from the box. The model is not included in the package.
Period shots tend to be grainy, and the shape of an insignia is easier to make out from them than its exact execution. A universal sheet fills that gap: you pick a symbol matching in shape, add a tactical number and you have a vehicle set in a particular unit without inventing details that cannot be read off the photograph. It is precisely this approach that makes generic markings the most practical kind of decal set.
German assault guns have busy superstructure sides, riveted brackets and, on the later machines, a rounded cast gun mantlet with a coarse texture. Onto surfaces like these, lay the design with plenty of softener and press it down with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges. Place small insignia on flat plate rather than on an edge; if crossing a fold really is unavoidable, score the design with a scalpel.
