The fifth sheet of the War in Ukraine series from Star Decals concentrates on T-72B tanks in the 1986 version, as they could be seen with the forces of the Donetsk Republic in 2022. The addition is intended for modelers who build present-day hardware in 1:35 size and want to place it with documentary accuracy.
The T-72B makes up one of the main production branches of the Soviet T-72 medium tank. Against the older versions it was given stronger frontal protection of the turret and revised equipment for fire control. Machines of this generation saw a whole range of workshop modifications over their long service, so individual examples differ in the mounting of the armor blocks, the stowage of baggage and the form of the additional covers. That is precisely why it pays to work with shots of a particular vehicle with them, not just with a general scheme.
The series maps the markings used in the armed clashes in Ukraine and serves as historical reference for building a model. The designs on tanks of this generation often lie on an uneven surface with armor blocks and grab handles, so it is worth reaching for a softener, which draws the film down into the recesses. Apply it only at the moment when the design is seated exactly, because after that it no longer moves.
