This set of Star Decals decals in 1:72 scale is aimed at the markings of the Sherman tanks that the armored support group of the British marines used in Normandy. It is neither a kit nor a finished model, but an addition with which you give a built machine a particular historical identity.
The Royal Marines Armoured Support Group came into being with a single task: on the sixth of June 1944 to support the landing infantry with the fire of tracked hardware right in the area of the beaches. Alongside armored vehicles of British manufacture, Shermans served in it as well, and they came into their own mainly in directing and observing fire. The markings of these vehicles differed from the practice of ordinary armored regiments, so they are to be found among decal sheets only rarely.
It adheres best on a smooth glossy surface, so varnish the model with gloss varnish before marking it. Cut the design out as tight as possible to the edge, soak it in warm water and move it into place with a damp brush. On riveted areas and transitions a softening solution helps, as it draws the carrier membrane down to the surface. Once dry, seal the decal with varnish and only then go on with weathering. In 1:72 scale it pays to work with good lighting and fine tweezers, because the individual insignia are really small.
