An injection-molded plastic kit of the AH-64D attack helicopter in 1:35 scale from the maker Takom. The D of the World limited edition offers decals for three marking variants of different users and adds photo-etched parts. The set also contains parts for folded rotor blades, so the model can be built in the transport configuration. The model is very large in this scale; the rotor blades alone measure over twenty centimeters.
The AH-64D Apache Longbow is a development version of the AH-64A attack helicopter. The main change is the radar placed in a housing above the rotor head, which makes it possible to find and sort targets without having to expose the machine to direct view. Upgraded avionics and more powerful engines complemented it. The armament consists of a 30 mm automatic cannon under the fuselage, guided anti-tank missiles and unguided rocket pods on the stub wing pylons. The machine serves with a number of armies outside the United States.
The helicopter has an extensive cockpit interior and rich stores, so plan the order of the work in advance: finish and clear-coat the cockpit, the instrument panels and the seats before you close the fuselage. Mask the glazing and glue it only after the base color has been sprayed. A dark matte scheme calls for work with shades — brighten the surfaces with a light overspray of a lighter tone, otherwise the model will blend into one mass. Apply the decals on a gloss base and use a decal softener, so that they settle onto the riveting. Leave the rotor blades separate and glue them on at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
