About product

Markings of the 18. Panzer Division in 1:35 scale

The decal set is tied to a single division and to the defined period from 1941 to 1943. According to the name it covers the light tanks Pz II in versions A to C and F and the medium Pz IV, both the submersible Tauch-Pz IV conversion and the ordinary F and F2 versions. For a modeler building several vehicles of one formation a sheet like this is practical, because the markings stay uniform across the models. A kit is not in the package.

The real subject

The 18. Panzer Division is tied to one technically remarkable chapter. Its tanks went through a conversion for driving under water, originally prepared for a landing on the British Isles. The vehicles received sealed openings and an air supply, so they could drive along the bed of a watercourse instead of crossing a bridge. The planned landing never happened, but the equipment came into its own at the opening of the campaign in the east in 1941, when the tanks crossed the border river below the surface. By that time the Pz II was only a reconnaissance and escort machine with a 20 mm cannon, while the Pz IV in its F2 version received a long 75 mm gun, which made it a full-fledged anti-tank weapon for the first time.

Application and painting tips

When you are building several vehicles of the same division, place the divisional sign in the same spot and at the same height on every model. It is exactly this small thing that turns a group of models into a believable unit. The turret of the Pz II has small sides, so mark the position of the tactical numbers out with a pencil in advance. Always varnish a gloss patch under the design and, once it has dried, even the sheen out with a matte varnish.

Who the set is for

  • builders of German hardware from 1941 to 1943
  • modelers building a group of vehicles of one division
  • anyone interested in submersible conversions of tanks
  • dioramas of the Eastern Front in 1:35 scale

FAQ

According to the name, for the Pz II in versions A to C and F, for the submersible Tauch-Pz IV conversion and for the Pz IV in its F and F2 versions.

It was a conversion for driving under water. The vehicle had sealed openings and an air supply, so it could drive along the bed of a watercourse.

The years 1941 to 1943. Which particular vehicles and theaters the designs are tied to is set out in the breakdown on the box of the sheet.

It is not. It is a marking sheet on its own.
