This injection-molded plastic kit from the maker Italeri contains a pair of American army trailers: a 250 gallon water tank trailer and the M101 cargo trailer. These are classic supply accessories that were towed behind trucks, which makes them a rewarding addition to dioramas as well as models in their own right.

The real subject

The 250 gallon tank trailer served to distribute drinking water to units in the field and on exercises. The M101 cargo trailer was the standard means of transport of the US Army and its allies, towed by trucks, command vehicles and ambulances alike. Both trailers belonged to the ordinary equipment of supply columns and appeared on many battlefields and in many stages of the war.

Building and painting tips

Thanks to the size of the trailers the build is quick and suits less experienced modelers too. Take care over the clean fit of the bed and the chassis and over the fine parts of the drawbar and the lights. The base is a matte olive, which takes an airbrush well. The trailers are rewarding to weather: bring the wooden load beds to life with a dry brush and fine-tune the dust and mud on the wheels and the chassis with pigments and a wash.
