A set of figures of French gendarmes in 1:35 scale, set in theme in the year 1940.
Responsibility details are not available.
The French gendarmerie was an armed force with police duties and military status. In 1940 anyone moving along French roads came across its members: they directed traffic, guarded junctions and bridges, checked papers and looked after order among civilians on the move. That is exactly why a gendarme is a rewarding subject for a diorama; he gives the scene a story and a civilian dimension that military hardware on its own lacks.
It is a set of figures in 1:35 scale, that is in the most common scale for models of vehicles and hardware. The figures suit scenes with cars, motorcycles and columns in retreat, and they also work well as a counterweight to the uniformed crew of a vehicle. The exact makeup of the set and the number of figures are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the surplus material and the traces of production off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the folds and the buttons stay legible. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; for those that are not polystyrene, cyanoacrylate is used. Wash and degrease the figures before painting. With dark uniforms it pays not to start from the darkest shade: a lighter base and gradual deepening of the shadows will keep the shape of the figure legible even in a display case.
The set is for builders of dioramas from the beginning of the Second World War and for anyone who wants to show order forces in a scene as well as soldiers. Paints and glue are not supplied with the set, unless stated otherwise.
