Replacement wheels with the load indicated for F-14B and F-14D Tomcat models in 1:48 scale. The tires are flattened in the contact face as on a parked aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tomcat is a carrier-based fighter with a crew of two and a variable-sweep wing. The B and D versions differ from the original form above all in the powerplant and the equipment, and that shows in the form of the landing gear wheels as well. A parked aircraft has visibly settled tires: the rubber spreads and flattens where it touches the surface, which smoothly cast wheels from kits usually do not capture.
The set replaces the wheels from the original kit with parts on which the load is indicated by the shape of the tire. The pattern of the tread and of the sidewall tends to be more legible on replacement wheels than on the parts from the kit, so once the model is set on its landing gear it comes across as heavier and more settled.
Cut off the excess material with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. When gluing, take care that the flattened part of the tire points to the ground and that the faces of both main wheels settle evenly; otherwise the model stands crooked. The hubs are usually painted differently from the tire, so it pays to spray the wheel first in the hub shade and then paint or mask the rubber.
The set is for modelers who want to get rid of the look of a floating aircraft on a finished model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
