1:35 Animal Serie - Normand Cow No.2 is a diorama element in 1:35 scale from Dynamo-Models, completing rural scenes from the Normandy landscape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second numbered item of the pasture subject from the Animal Serie range of Dynamo-Models. It is not a model of a vehicle but an accessory to a scene, placed on the base beside vehicles, buildings and figures. The number in the name tells the individual items of the range apart, so a modeler can put a pasture together from several animals without one and the same shape repeating in the scene.
Since the 19th century Normandy has been associated with dairy cattle farming and with a landscape of small fields and pastures separated by banks overgrown with bushes and trees. This arrangement is called bocage, and in 1944 it became the main terrain problem of the fighting after the landings: the dense banks limited the view as well as the movement of armored vehicles. Farm animals stayed in the pastures even in the immediate vicinity of the front, which is well documented in photographs from the summer of 1944. That is exactly why cattle read convincingly in a Normandy diorama and not as an ornament.
Work up from a light undercoat: leave the white areas of the coat in a warm cream tone and build the brown patches in two or three layers so that they are not flat. Blend the transition between the colors with a half-dry brush. The eyes and the nostrils are small areas where a thin brush and a steady hand pay off. At the end even the surface out with matte varnish and dust the lower legs with pigments in the tone of the surrounding soil. Place the animal so that it follows on from the terrain and does not look added at the last moment - taller grass around the hooves will help.
