The LVT-4 is an amphibious tracked vehicle, which differed from its predecessors in a repositioned engine and a drop ramp at the rear, so that it could be loaded and its cargo tipped out considerably faster. Australian units made use of it in landing operations in the southwest Pacific at the close of the war. The M19 transporter, by contrast, is a road combination: a heavy Diamond truck coupled to a lowboy semi-trailer, which was able to carry away a medium tank and thus spared its own running gear on long moves. The two vehicles meet at only one point: both served the Australian forces and both carried the Australian system of marking.
Both the transporter and the amphibious carrier have long flat sides, on which the work involves longer lettering and rows of numbers. These are applied in parts and it is easy to set them askew. It is proven practice to stick a strip of masking tape along the intended line as a guide and to line the individual characters up against it; the tape comes off as soon as the decals have tacked off. At the ramp and the hatches let the markings run right up to the edge and then trim the excess off, so that no wavy edge arises.
The decals are supplied on their own. A model, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
