A resin figure in 1:35 scale from Copper State Models. The figure is modeled with an opened map in his hands, that is, in a still pose with the head lowered and an intent stance. For a scene it is a rewarding subject: the map creates a natural center of the composition, to which further figures or a vehicle can be added. The uniform matches the First World War period.
The figure is cast in resin and divided into several parts. Before building, wash them in lukewarm water with dish soap — otherwise the mold release agent prevents the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw or a cutting disc at a distance from the part, level the remainder with a file and sanding paper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic will not join resin. Try the arms with the map dry first and find the angle at which the sheet is held naturally and does not cover the face. Fill any gap in the joint with thicker cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part putty and sand it down.
A primer coat is essential with resin: it evens the surface out and reveals small bubbles. Build the uniform up from the base tone toward shadows and highlights, so that the folds of the cloth come out. Paint the face separately in good light and leave it for a time when you will not be disturbed — it is the face that decides the impression the whole figure makes. The map is the lightest area on the model, so finish it last and do not overdo the contrast; a light suggestion of the creases in the paper is enough. Before gluing, check the position of the figure against the rest of the scene, so that both the direction of the gaze and the stance make sense.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
