A set of photo-etched parts for a model of the Bell AH-1G attack helicopter in the early version, 1:48 scale. It replaces elements that come out too thick in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell AH-1G was the first production attack helicopter created directly for that role. A narrow fuselage with the crew seated one behind the other, stub wings with pylons and landing skids instead of a wheeled undercarriage made it a machine that differed conspicuously from the armed transport helicopters used until then. The set is listed for the early version.
Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet from which the parts are broken out and bent to shape. The thinness is the whole point: elements such as grilles, loops or flat stiffeners inevitably come out thicker in a plastic part than the scale would call for, whereas a photo-etched part has a thickness that the eye reads as sheet metal on a finished model.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by twisting, otherwise they will bend in a place where you do not want it. Make the bends over a straight edge or in a bending tool and start with those you will not be able to reach later. They are bonded with super glue or with two-part epoxy; apply the glue in a minute amount on the tip of a toothpick. Before painting, degrease the parts and give them a coat of primer, otherwise the paint holds badly on smooth metal.
The helicopter model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
