An accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard that solves a single but very conspicuous detail: the crew harness belts in the cockpit of the Bell AH-1G helicopter in its early production form. The STEEL designation refers to the material the fret is made from. Compared with brass, steel sheet shapes more easily into soft folds and above all holds the shape, so belts draped over the edge of a seat look convincing and do not spring back to their original position.
The cockpit of the AH-1G is clearly visible thanks to the glazing that runs the whole length of the forward fuselage, and the seats are among the first things the eye falls on. Injection-molded plastic usually only suggests the belts as relief on the seat, because in 1:35 scale they would have to be absurdly thick. A stand-alone photo-etched set solves this detail without having to buy a whole large set.
Separate the belts with a scalpel against a hard surface and shape them with your fingers or blunt tweezers over a rounded edge so that natural folds form. Bend the buckles and fittings in a photo-etch bending tool or between razor blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a genuinely minimal amount, otherwise the excess spreads onto the face of the belt. Fit them only after the seats are finished and definitely before the fuselage is closed up. Subtle shading and a light dusting of pigment give the belts a used look.
