Despite the word turret in the name, this is neither a turret nor a part of a vehicle — it is a set of figures of a British tank crew in 1:35, cast in modeling resin. That is how the maker systematically marks multi-figure sets meant for the space of the turret hatches, where the figures are visible only in part. The same series also includes individual figures of a commander and a loader and a whole-crew variant, so a scene can be built up step by step.
Workmanship and use
The figures are modeled as half figures or in a pose leaning out of a hatch, so the attention is concentrated on the upper part of the body: the cut of the coverall, the shoulder seams, the hands resting on the edge of the turret and the drawing of the face. A resin casting holds these details more finely than injection-molded plastic. It is exactly this type of figure that changes the look of a finished model the most — it gives the turret scale and the scene life even without a whole diorama.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off at the mold seam line with a saw or a knife and level the faces with a file; sand wet and with protection for your breathing. Before you start gluing, try the figures dry in the hatch — the openings differ in size from kit to kit and the lower part of the casting often has to be shortened. Glue with super glue and fill the seams with filler. After a thin primer, paint the clothing from a darker ground toward lighter crests of the folds, and build the faces with glazes of flesh shades. Bring the details out with a dark glaze into the recesses and knock the surface down with a matte clear coat.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
