1:35 Cavalrymen From The 8th Waffen-SS Division 'Floryan Geier' Set

What kind of accessory this is

A set of figures in 1:35 scale capturing cavalrymen of the 8th SS Cavalry Division. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread one for figures to go with military hardware, so the set can be joined without trouble to vehicles, artillery and diorama accessories of the same scale. The figures moreover give a scene scale in the true sense of the word: only next to a figure is it apparent how big a vehicle really is.

The real subject

The designation refers to the 8th SS Cavalry Division, which came about in 1942 from earlier SS mounted units and carried an honorary name after the Franconian knight Florian Geyer from the time of the peasant wars of the 16th century. In the Second World War mounted units were employed mainly in the rear and in difficult terrain, where motor vehicles fought their way through only with trouble and the horse stayed more reliable.

Building and painting tips

Wash and degrease the figures before painting, as on a smooth surface the paint otherwise holds badly. Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, with figures especially attentively, so that the fine relief of the fabric does not disappear. It proves useful to spray a primer, to build the shades on it only afterwards and to deepen the shadows with a dark glaze. Leave the faces until the end, when there is calm for them, and finally unify the whole figure with a matte varnish, so that the sheen does not clash with its surroundings anywhere.

Who it is for

For modelers who are building a diorama from the Second World War in 1:35 scale and are looking for less usual figures for it. The hardware, the base, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
