1:35 Chests

Chests in 1:35 scale for a diorama

Scenic accessories for a diorama in 1:35 scale. A chest is a universal piece of equipment: it belongs in a living interior, in an attic, in a store and out in a yard, where it serves as a surface to set things on or as a seat for a figure. It is not a kit and not a finished model; it is an accessory to be cleaned up, painted and set into a scene yourself.

What the accessories are for

Chests are among the most usable scenic elements of all, because they are tied neither to one period nor to one setting. The same piece will do in a civilian interior and in a military store, it can be stacked into a pile, opened, overturned or partly buried in rubble. That is exactly why they also suit filling empty spots in a composition, where a bare base would jar. The 1:35 scale is the distinguishing detail; the same subject also comes out in other scales.

Tips for working and painting

• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry.
• Cut the flash and casting residue off with a scalpel and level the mating surfaces on abrasive paper laid on a flat board.
• Lay the base down thinly, so that the texture of the boards and the fittings stays legible.
• Wood: a light base, a darker glaze or an oil paint over it wiped along the grain, and a dry brush on the edges at the end.
• Bring the fittings out with a dark wash and a hint of rust, so that they stand apart from the wood.

Who the accessories are for

• Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
• Modelers who furnish interiors, stores and yards
• Figure painters looking for an accessory a figure can naturally be linked to

These are scenic accessories, not a kit. Paints, glue, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
